Bodil Kjer stars as the over-the-hill ballerina whose life travels down a memory lane populated by counts, barons, queers and transvestites. Her son, Bent, suffers from her fervent wish that he should have been a daughter. One day, a young man becomes a boarder in their house. His presence is the inciting incident in a story where changing sex before dinner is quite normal.
